Wall Fountain Ideas
The sound of flowing water is a soothing and relaxing sound for most people, which is why wall fountains are so popular. Buying a wall fountain can cost a fortune, and end up as the same cookie cutter style that other people have. You can build your own unique wall fountain with the right materials, some spare time, and for less than $1,000 depending on the size of the wall fountain that interests you. You can also buy wall fountain kits that have all the materials you might need to assemble one without looking for them.
Most people will want a wall fountain that stands at about 6ft high. This is a good height for a property or garden. You will first need to design or figure out what kind of basin you will need. This basin is what catches the water and allows it to circulate back to flow forth again from the fountain. There are countless options, so this is a completely personal preference. Choose what will fit best with your design. You can even incorporate these into your backyard ponds as a filter or added aesthetics.
A re-circulating pump is the number one part of building your own wall fountain, because its what makes the fountain what it is. A re-circulating pump basically pushes water out, up and over the fountain, and keeps it looking aesthetically pleasing. These come in many different output ranges, from 10 gallons per hour to 1,000 or more gallons per hour. Again, for your basic at home 6ft tall wall fountain, you will only need one that out puts about 50 to 125 gallons, depending. This piece works with what is called the “water release head”. These are positioned at the top of your wall fountain, and aim the water in the right direction. With the proper release head and re-circulating pump, the way your water fountain wall looks can vary dramatically. A re-circulating pump and water release head will cost less than $100 each for an at home basic type. More specialized varieties are available and cost slightly more.
Even though they are easy to build yourself, it’s important to know your city laws regarding building one. Sizes, gallons per hour, and depth are all important factors. You may be required to cover the basin with mesh if children live nearby, and some cities have water restrictions. Also, if you choose to build a massive wall fountain, you may need city licenses.
Unless you are experienced, choose your materials and plans carefully. If you have no drawing or measuring experience there are plenty of blueprints available on the internet for your use. The materials for the fountain itself are easy and cheap to find, you can use wood, concrete, steel, and adobe. Make this project reflect and match your surrounding area, and in no time you can have a relaxing and soothing wall fountain that you have always dreamed of.
