Tips on How to Save Electricity

save electricityWith the cost of electricity rising, it is no wonder that everyone is going green, and trying to save electricity when at all possible. We have compiled a small list of a few easy things you can do around your home to help save electricity.

1. When it comes to heating and cooling your home, it is important that your ceilings are insulated. Make sure to have atleast 50 mm of insulation in your ceiling.

2. Close vents to un-used rooms in the house, and keep their doors closed.

3. Change your air conditioner filter regularly.

4. Regularly clean your air conditioner condenser coils.

5. Shade windows during the summer to keep sun directly off of glass.

6. If a room is unoccupied, turn off the lights.

7. Use a fan when possible. Circulating the air in a room will make it feel cooler, and costs less than turning down the thermostat on your air conditoner.

8. Sleep with an electric blanket, rather than heating the entire home.

9. Check all doors and windows to make sure they close and seal properly.

10. Caulk any gaps or openings where door and window trim meet sheet rock, and exterior siding.

These are just a few tips we have found that can save the average family quite a bit each month on their homes electricity bill. There are hundreds of ways to save energy and there is no better time than now to find ways to save electricity.
