Roof Garden Designs
Roof gardens have existed for a considerable amount of time, but in recent months they have become an increasingly popular way for city dwellers to liven up their homes and apartment complexes. They are efficient for growing vegetables and fruits, look beautiful, and are even protected from most burrowing animals that tend to be a pest.
To establish your own roof garden, you will need to first assess your building structure and if it is capable of holding dirt, water, and plants. Adobe houses and buildings are ideal for rooftop gardens, because they are a natural structure. Wooden roofs and sloped roofs make it difficult to grow a roof garden. It does take a specific home to grow one properly, however. If you have any ceiling leaks, it is important to get them fixed prior to building a roof garden. If you have a weak roof, this type of garden is not ideal for you.
After you have a clearance and knowledge of your roof structure, you will need to determine how you want to develop your roof garden. Do you want the entire roof to grow wild flowers each year with little maintenance? Or would you prefer a roof garden with vegetation that is edible? For just a wild flower roof garden, you simply need enough fertilized dirt in the amount of area that you want your garden to cover. Then you would simply pour the dirt, smooth it, and plant the flowers. These require little effort and look gorgeous in the spring and summer. You can even plant wildflowers that continuously bloom all year.
For a vegetation garden, you will need to plan small walkways and watering methods. A good blueprint is best, and investing in good quality soil is a great way to start. Installing an irrigation system is also necessary, to prevent you from needing to climb to the top of your roof daily for watering.
Roof gardens are a completely creative and unique way to revitalize your property and give your home something interesting. These gardens are quickly becoming a hot trend in major cities; because of the benefits they provide the environment. They are simple to build, and easy to maintain, and very cost efficient. You will likely never need to buy pesticides to keep away rabbits or squirrels. The best part about roof gardens is that they reduce your carbon footprint by giving back to the earth, even if you took away a plot of land with your home structure.
