Outdoor Security Lighting
Installing outdoor security lighting is one of the best way to deter thieves from breaking and entering your home. Being seen is the last thing that an intruder wants. Having to pay the electricity bill on lights that stay on all night, is not what you want. This is where outdoor security lights come into play.
There are a couple different choices you have when selecting the best home security lighting. If you have exisiting exterior lighting fixtures, you can simply add a security light to your existing fixture. Some security lighting systems will simply screw into your outlet and include either a dusk til dawn system, or a motion sensor system.
A dusk till Dawn outdoor security lighting system will simply turn on your light when the sun goes down, and turn off your lights when the sun comes up. This is a simple method to make sure there is always light when you need it, however leaving a light on all night long will run up your electricity bill.
A motion sensor security lighting system will only turn on your lights when motion is detected by its sensor. These systems work great as they do not stay on all night. When the sensor is tripped, the lights will turn on for a preset amount of time, usually one or two minutes. The drawback to having a motion sensor security lighting system, is that animals will often turn them on, leaving you to think that maybe there is an intruder outside.
Where are the best places to mount an outdoor security lighting system? It is good to install them in areas where you fill in intruder may want to into your home. Above your garage door, and any doorways leading into or out of your home. It is also a good idea to install outdoor security lights above high-traffic areas around your home. This way you know it will always be lit up at night when you are walking around your property, keeping you safe while keeping thieves away.

I found with my own property after a string of burglaries in the area that the best places to put PIR floodlights was on pretty much all the access points. Which has proven to be quite sucessful as i’ve yet to be broken into.
I had the same worries about power and energy costs but with a photocell and motion sensor its barely affected my powerbill at all which I cannot complain at!
I would suggest using other security products like CCTV as well as any security floodlights, better safe than sorry!
