How To Prevent Mildew In The Home

mildewMildew can be a serious problem for those with allergies. It is also quite unappealing to the eyes as well and is noticed by its distinctive black stain which can be difficult to remove.

The most common places mildew is found is in basements, under sinks, in small crawl spaces, and in showers and bathtubs. Generally anywhere that there is very little air movement and plenty of stagnant moisture there is a good chance you will find mildew.

The best way to stop mildew is to not let it start growing. here are some tips to keep your home mildew free.

Keep things clean. Even small particles of food can help mildew to thrive quite well. make sure surfaces of everything in your home have been cleaned.

Keep areas and surfaces dry. This is the most common reason mildew starts growing. A small leak or leftover water after a bath or shower will generally support the growth. it is best to wipe things down after using them such as sinks and tiled areas. make sure to eliminate any leaks you may have in your home. Check under your sink to make sure there is no moisture on cabinet surfaces as well.

Using air to get things or areas to dry quickly are also beneficial. use exhaust fans in bathrooms and utility rooms. use your air conditioner in general areas of the home when dampness occurs, and use mobile fans to add air to other parts of the home which may not get the proper ventilation to get rid of wet surfaces quickly.

For other surfaces like tents, awnings and patio furniture, you can use a fungicide which will help to fight the growth of any mildew.

By taking the necessary steps to prevent mildew you will be promoting a cleaner and healthier home for you and your family.
