How to Hang Pictures on Sheet Rock
Hanging pictures is a great way to display family photos or simply decorate a room. It is important to remember that dry wall or sheet rock was never meant to support the weight of anything hanging from it directly. Picture hanging is quite easy, but it is important that the correct method of hanging pictures is used to ensure they do not fall in the future.
Many times when hanging a light enough picture, or painting, a simple finish nail in the wall might do the job. However, in most cases, it is best hang pictures on the wall if they are hung using toggle bolts, anchor bolts or hung directly off of a stud. Using a stud finder will help in the daunting task of finding the hidden studs in your walls.
You can find anchor bolts, and toggle bolts at your local hardware store like Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware. The easiest of the two to use would be anchor bolts. Anchor bolts will have a small plastic sleeve that the bolt or screw will screw into. They are normally small enough that you can use a phillips head screw driver to punch a hole in the wall, and tap the plastic sleeve into the hole. It must be a tight fit in order to work. Simply screw the bolt in to the desired depth and you are done.
Some anchors are threaded like a large plastic screw. These anchors screw directly into the dry wall with a screw driver or drill, and a screw can then be screwed into the anchor. These anchors can support alot of weight.
Remember that using an anchor or contacting the stud directly is really the only way to ensure that the pictures you are hanging will stay put. These are just basic tips on how to hang pictures, as there are other ways to do so.
