How To Get Rid Of Ant Hills

ant hillAnt hills might be popping up all over your lawn, and getting rid of them can be a real headache. There are several things you can do, and several combinations of things which can get rid of the ants and the hills.

One thing that some people have recommended is the use of vinegar. This is not going to work, and may cause more damage to your lawn than anything.

You can try using a garden hose on full power,  and of course you will be able to drowned plenty of ants, but the Queen will continue to lay eggs and more ants will come back and build back the hills that were destroyed.

So here is another option, and this is how it works. Pour club soda directly into the mound. Since the carbon dioxide is heavier than air, it displaces the air and will cause most ants and many times the Queen to die. This not only serves one purpose but a second. You get rid of the ants and ant mounds in your yard and with no harmful effects to your grass or other habitat. In order for this method to be effective you should use approximately 1 bottle of club soda per 2 mounds.

If you don’t want to buy club soda you can always use the second option of either a borax based substance, or by pouring boiling water directly on the ant hills.

It is generally best to start with the largest mounds first and work your way down to the smaller ones. remember that a Queen ant can reproduce very fast, so you have a lot better chance of destroying them all by working the largest hills first.

Ants are hardy, and we can all learn something from how industrious they are as a team, so don’t always expect to completely eliminate them. They will always come back at some point.
