How To Clean An Iron

The reservoir of your iron is probably the most common thing that needs to be cleaned since it accumulates deposits which can cause dirt to be added to your clothing during the ironing process. Cleaning it with white vinegar and a clean rag can get this job done.

Fill the reservoir with about 1/4th vinegar. Set the iron to steam and turn it on. Put the rag under it and steam it out until it is empty. Then add  water and steam that out until it is empty. Your reservoir should now be clean.

Cleaning an Iron Soleplate

Cleaning the soleplate of an iron can be a task that requires a little effort, but it can save cloting from becoming stained when ironing them. The first thing you want to make sure before you begin is that the iron is cold and cooled down from any previous use.

Use a dish washing soap and water, and begin whiping the solepad with a nylon mesh pad, or sponge (avoid using a scour pad). If you notice that the buildup and grime is too tough to get off then you will need to use something stronger.

get a clean cloth dipped in vinegar, and begin whiping with it over the solepad. If this is not getting it all you may need to heat the iron and use a little salt with the vinegar until it is disolved. make sure that after cleaning it you always whipe it down with a fresh rag and water.
