Garage Door Adjusting

garage door adjustmentWhen your garage door is not working at the speed you need or you simply need to do some repairs or tweaks to improve performance, making adjustments will be your solution. The various tweaks to the garage door system of motors can simply make the proper adjustments to your garage door so that it operates at the proper speed, strength and safety level. The only tool you will need is a screwdriver that can access the appropriate adjustment screws and your garage remote or control panel to run tests on the speed and accuracy.

If your garage door has difficulties opening completely or reaching the floor for a full closure, then adjustments to the open/close limits may be required. Check the ability of the door to open completely and in reverse for closing amounts. If the door does not fully open, then a simple tweak to the adjustment screws for the opening limit in the clockwise direction will allow for proper opening function. Simply turn the adjustment screw in the counterclockwise direction if the door does not close completely. If adjusting the door to open completely leaves the door too far open while attempting to reclose and there are no obstructions to the safety sensor, additional tweaks to the force of the movement while closing the garage door may be needed.

To adjust the opening or closing force of the garage door, the garage door will need to be tweaked with the control panel and some trial and error calculations. This is possible for doors that open to far and fail to close by pressing the down control on the control panel then pulling on the door during the closing motion and increasing the amount of force until the door reaches the ground. When you need to reverse the effect, simply decrease the force and test the withdrawing motion while operating the control panel to open the door to effectively adjust the garage door opening movement to get it to work more efficiently.

Sometimes you will need to adjust the safety reverse system to ensure that the door operates at a safe level. This requires using an object to test the safety reverse function while closing the door. By placing the object on the floor and closing the door on top of it this can test the safety reverse. If the door stops but does not reverse, then an increase adjustment to the down limit must be made. This can be done by adjusting the limit screw by a quarter clockwise turn and running the safety reverse test again. If you are unable to adjust the door properly, then a professional may be required to adjust it for you.
