The answer to that question will vary from user to user, home to home, and business-to-business place. There a few questions you can ask yourself that will help you determine how often you should clean your computer.

1.Do you have a dog or a chat in the same room or building as the computer?

2. Do you or anyone in the same building as the computer smoke?

3. If someone in the same building as the computer smokes, are they directly next to the computer when they’re smoking?

4. Is your computer located on the floor?

5. If your computer is located on the floor, does the room have carpet?

6. Do you eat and drink around your computer?

7. Does the person using the computer and adult, child, or teenager?

After asking yourself these questions, you should be able to come to a general conclusion on how often you should clean your computer. A regular routine schedule of computer cleaning is important if you want to increase the longevity that your computer will last. For the average American home, with the average use of a home desktop computer, cleaning your computer every three months with a can of compressed air will help the longevity of your computer.

You should not just open up the case and start spraying air everywhere inside like a maniac, it is likely that you can mess something up, or damage the internal parts such as the motherboard or video card. Not only should you clean the inside of your computer case, but keeping the monitor, mouse and the keyboard clean or just as important.

When cleaning your computer, it is important to never use a liquid cleaner to clean any parts of your computer components. If you must use a cleaning spray agent, spray the liquid onto a cloth first and then rub down the component that you wish to clean.

If you would like to use a vacuum, only use a vacuum around the computer and the case. Never use the vacuum inside the computer. You do not want to use a vacuum to clean your computer because it generates a lot of static electricity that can and will damage internal components of your computer.

If it is necessary that you use a cleaning agent or solvent, make sure that the solvent is specifically designed for computers so that it does not damage any of your internal components. Keeping your cooling fan unit clean and your computer is extremely important. The best way to clean your computer fans are by using an aerosol can of compressed air. When spraying the compressed air into a fan unit, make sure that you hold the blade steel so that they do not spin at a rapid speed while you’re spraying the compressed air.

To help keep the amount of times you must clean your computer down, try to keep yourself from eating or drinking around the computer. Smoking around a computer is bad for it. Try to limit the amount of smoke that is around your computer on a daily basis. Remember never get any of the components of your computer what, and do not allow the cooling fans to spin while cleaning them.
