Cleaning Your Home with a Pressure Washer

pressure washing houseWhen pressure washing house and home, it is important to know a little bit about the pressure washer you are using. Pressure washers come in all different psi ranges and can do as little as clean, and as much as blasting clear through the siding on your home. This is why it is a good idea to know what your doing before you get started.

When is it necessary to pressure wash your house? Pressure washers are great for regular maintanance cleaning. They are probably best used however when preping your home for new paint. Pressure washers work well at knocking off dirt, debri, and mildew from your homes siding. Pressure washers are great for cleaning the exterior of most homes including brick, wood, hardie siding, vinyl siding, and aluminum siding.

To properly pressure wash a house, the use of mild chemicals or detergants are important. You can find house washing chemicals at most hardware stores. Make sure you choose the right cleaning agent for your homes exterior. Pre soak a section of your home, just like you would do when washing a car. Allow the cleaning agent to soak for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, but do not allow it to dry. Remember to test clean a small section of your home before attempting to clean the entire house. Older paint may not take well to the cleaning agent you use, or the high amount of pressure from the pressure washer.

Start about 36 inches away from your siding on your home, and work yourself closer til you see the results you are looking for. Remember getting to close to your siding with too much pressure can knock a hole clear into your house. Start from the highest part of your home and work your way down, never spraying in one spot too long. It is key to keep the wand of the pressure washer moving.  If you must use a ladder to reach high spots, use caution and have someone help you.
