Choosing Paint Colors
Choosing paint colors can prove to be a real challenge when decorating your home. There is an endless amount of choices that you can choose from, finding the right one can be a little overwhelming. With so many choices it may be hard to know where to start.
First, collect paint samples that appeal to you. Grab as many as you would like. Be patient, wait to make your final choice until you have figured out what your overall room scheme is. Remember paint is easy to change and is available in an infinite amount of colors.
When you go shopping for your overall room decor, and paint color, bring all the elements you would like to tie into the theme. Bring a sample of your fabric, carpet, tile, wallpaper, and your trim samples as well. You can find the underlying tones and hues of the different shades of a color on each one of your sample paint strips. When choosing paint colors, decide if the family of colors is the direction you want to head to with your color selection.
If you are choosing paint colors fro a print fabric, you will want to select the coordinating wall paint color from the background color of the print. Use deeper, brighter tones for accents throughout the room. Also consider your trim or moldings, and what color they will be when choosing the wall colors. For a striking look, try lighter walls and dark tones for your trim.
When choosing paint colors, don’t let yourself get overwhelmed, this is the fun part. Actually painting the walls is the work! Another helpful hint is consider your paint finish will be best for your project. Matte or flat finishes hide wall imperfections, while glossier finishes will reflect more light.
