Ceramic Tile Repair
Ceramic tile pair can be very difficult. True you can do it yourself, but for this task I would recommend a professional contractor be hired
for this one. However, I will still take you through the basics of how to repair a tile that maybe cracked, broken, or loose.
The reason ceramic tile repair can be tricky, or risky, is that it can affect the integrity of the tiles around it. So if you are going to attempt to do your own ceramic tile repair, keep in mind that it is possible to cause more problems for yourself down the road.
Once you have found the tile that needs to be replaced, it is important that you cut the grout out that surrounds that tile completely. To cut the grout out, you will need either a utility knife, and a lot of patience, a grout tool specifically designed to cut grouth, or a 4″ angle grinder and a vacuum cleaner.
After the grout has been cut out from around the tile, you do not want to try and pry the tile up from the surround edges or corners. This is because you risk the chance of chipping or breaking one of the surrounding tiles. What you want to do, is take a hammer and hit directly in the center of the tile you want to remove. You need to break the tile apart in the center til you can see the thinset below or even the foundation.
At this point you can take a chizzle or a pry bar and work your way from the inside out. This will help prevent chipping other tiles. Once you have removed all pieces of the tile, you need to clean floor clean down to the foundation by removing thinset that is left behind. Once the floor is completely clean, you can re-spread new thinset down, lay your new tile, and grount it.
