Many home owners who start a home remodeling project may have the thought in mind about historical accuracy, or simply saving money. If this is the case with you, finding window replacement parts to replace only the parts of the window that may be broken can save you time and money.

In most cases finding the replavement part for a particular window is just as much work as doing the physical labor of replacing the part. What are some of the main parts of windows that may need to be replaced over time?

One often replaced window replacement part is the window sash. The window sash is the part of the window that holds the glass in place. Next you have what is called the window runner. Window Runners hold the window sash in place and allow the window to open or move up and down. This is done with the help of balancers or rollers. These parts mentioned above worj together as a support system to make sure that your windows work properly.

The two most comonly replaced parts, other than the window glass itself are the window balances and the rollers. Over time these parts just wear out, as a result the window will not open properly. There are several different kinds of balances, these consist of spiral, coil, and channel window balances.

Next are the rollers. Rollers are used for slider type windows and are often top on the list of window replacement parts and are found on windows that slide back and forth as apposed to up and down. You can find window replacement rollers in nylon, steel and brass.

They are best for cooling single large rooms and can have enough power to cool very large areas. They fit into nearly every style of sliding window and come in various formats for those homes with vertical or horizontal sliding window types. No matter where you plan on installing one, they are a great way to get cool air flow directly into the area within a small time frame and perpetually keep the climate controlled quite well.

The benefits for many of these models come in their energy efficient formats. They run on lower power and can even shut off when the temperature that is desired is reached. This also means a resume function to restart cooling when the temperature in the room begins to go up as well. These window types of air conditioning units also make it very simple to remove come time for cooler weather. They are very economic for most families and can be affordable through many retailers.

There are few cons to these models, but there are some that can make an impact on your purchase of one. They could cause your electric bill to go way up if you override the power management options. They are noisy to an extent and models that are designed to be silent cost more. If not installed properly, you might experience leaks from condensation or even damages to window frames and building materials. The main concern will be placement of such a model. If you put such a model into an easily accessible window from the ground, a burglar could easily pull out the air conditioning unit if not secured properly. This means that these types of air conditioning units are best suited for upstairs windows that do not have easy access by the roof or awnings.

Most of the high powered models that are more suited for business applications and large rooms will be semi costly. Many of the economic grade sliding window air conditioners will run under $400 for enough cooling BTU units to cover 150 square feet quite easily. Many retailing outlets carry these units and they can also be found at specialty or hardware stores that carry such in home equipment. The newest models will always be most efficient and power saving, so it is best to aim towards buying a new unit rather than finding one from a yard sale or flea market.

Removing your toilet can be done by simply removing, its water supply line and the two nuts on either side of the toilet that hold it firmly to its flange. One common problem that people often run into while they are trying to remove their toilet, is that the bolts that hold it in place have become rusted, and the nut will not unscrew.

There are a couple of different ways that you can approach this problem. Before you attempt cutting the bolts off, there is a trick that you can try with the help of another person. Usually what happens when the bolts become rusted, is that bolts will just spin in place, and the nut will not come off.

At this point, you can have somebody tilt the toilet to the right side, while you work on removing the nuts on the left side. What this does, is it puts pressure on the head of the bolt where it is attached to the flange. Sometimes this pressure is enough to hold the bolts still while you unscrew the nut. It is important that you do not tilt the toilet too much, or apply too much pressure as you can break the flange or even the toilet. Use this method with care.

If the above mentioned method does not work in helping you remove rusty toilet bolts, cutting the rusted toilet bolts is your next option. At this point you can either use a power tools such as a dremmal, or a saws all. If you are using a power tool, use caution as to not mar, or excessively scratch the toilet.

If you do not have a power tool to use, your next best bet will be to use a hack saw. Try to position a hack saw, or the blade of your power tool at the bottom of the nut where it meets the washer. Take your time and Saw through the bolt at the bottom of the nut. You may have to saw through the nut as well. Just remember to be careful and take your time.

Window sash locks are a special locking mechanism that provides security and an easy way to lock your windows, and keep them locked. A sash lock resembles a flipping device that allows you to switch it to unlocked and locked position with a simple flick. These are difficult to unlock from the outside, making them ideal for those especially concerned about security.

A traditional window has two latches that squeeze inwards to unlock the window and allow you to open it. These types of locks are undesirable and are easy to break into from the outside. A window sash lock cannot be opened from the outside at all. Locks like this are also attractive and come in many styles and designs. They come in brass designs, sterling, satin finishes, white plastic types, and so many other varieties. However, plastic sash locks are not recommended if security is a top priority, because they are a bit easier to break than a brass or metal lock.

These locks can be used on different types of windows as well, such as single windows or double pane windows. A good sash lock will be visible to anyone that is looking in, and likely deter them from trying to break into your home. Since window locks are mainly designed and used for security, and to keep bad weather from blowing a window off, it is important to know which locks do their job.

Since this type of lock is so effective at locking and staying locked, it can be difficult for a home resident to unlock their window from the inside to either open it or escape. Be sure to know how to easily open the lock in the event of an emergency in the event that you find the sash lock hard to flip locked and unlocked. This is especially important for the elderly and children who can have difficulty opening conventional locks.

Overall, window sash locks are beneficial to use, and more homes should choose these types of locks in lieu of flimsy and useless locks. After all, the objective is to keep your home safe from burglars, and protected during storms or the like. Sash locks are sturdy and next to impossible to blow open, making them a perfect option.
