With the beginning of 2010, many people will be looking to re doing their home and changing certain things around. Many households will inevitably be looking to get new floors, especially in this time surrounding winter. A popular new type of floor is hand scraped wooden floors. These types of floors offers a rustic and unique wooden look, and is full of character, allowing a dull room to become a warm and inviting environment.

Aside from the physical looks of the wood, many people choose to use hand scraped wooden floors because of the freedom in various humidity that comes with living in certain places. Some people have had huge trouble with wooden floors, as if not treated and made properly they can become damaged, and eventually cause a hazard as they become slippery and mold can wear them away.

The advantage of hand scraped wooden floors is that each plank moves independently, so that rather than cracking and becoming damaged they just move with each other. The scraping affect is usually applied before you purchase the wood, so that should not be a problem, although the pre scraped planks will be more expensive than the ones you buy and they scrape yourself. The floors are extremely durable, and are hard wearing, long lasting and look great.

If you want to fit them yourself, it’s vital that you read up on what to do,otherwise you run the risk of setting it up incorrectly, setting yourself up for problems later down the line. The traditional method of installing hand scraped wood floors is by nailing down the planks of wood. In this modern day and age there are many other methods available which include stapling the planks down. It all depends on the home owner, as some people may prefer the nailed in planks to create the original look, whilst there are people may want to staples used as they tend to be less viable. You also need to make sure you use a proper Subfloor.

A Subfloor is a base for the hardwood planks, and also acts as a biting point for the nails or staples. If you are going to use staples to fix your hardwood floor in place, you will need a staple device. These can be brought from your local hardware store normally, or if not can be found all over the internet for purchase These are relativity inexpensive, but like anything in life the quality you receive depends on how much you pay, and it might be a good idea to get a good one to ensure your hardwood floor is properly installed.

Installing the floors on average will take 10-12 hours per 400 square feet of area that needs doing. The wood can be expensive again, depending on the quality you go for, but it’s worth taking a good look into it before you make any purchases as you need to check that everything fits into place.

After you have installed file in your home, taking the time to seal the grout, is time well spent. A tile grout sealer will go a long ways for helping your grout stay new looking for a long time to come. There are many grout sealer is on the market today, and to say that one is absolutely the best grout sealer is next to impossible.

Depending on your application, age of the grout, square footage to cover, and daily traffic back to your grout will receive will must determine what grout sealer you should apply.

Just a few years back, the only way to seal grout was by and and with a small brush. This method of applying grout sealer so a lot of time and was very tedious. For this reason, most tile installers would charge a good amount of money he seal grout lines.

However, in the last couple of years technology has improved the way you conceal your grout lines. You can use a ceramic tile grout sealer that comes in an aerosol can that requires very little effort or preparation to apply. When it comes to ease of use, this grout sealer product is by far one of the easiest to apply on the market.

These kind of aerosol grout sealer are referred to as a stand in seal grout sealer. With the aerosol can in your hand, point it at the grout lines you wish to seal, and simply spray on and walk away. The grout will absorb the sealer, while the access sealer will evaporate. It does not get much easier than that.

While applying grout sealer to your ceramic tile grout lines, make sure that your home is a well ventilated. Open all the windows and doors, and after you have applied it, give your home a couple hours to air out.

Grout sealer, depending on traffic should generally be applied annually. It is a good idea to completely clean your grout lines with only water at least 24 hours a work you apply the sealer. It is important that your grout lines are totally dry for you apply the sealer.

To test your grout lines to see if they need to be re-sealed, there is the simple method in which you can test your grout lines. Simply take water and let it drip onto a grout line, if your grout absorbs the water, it is time to reseal them. If the water stays on the surface of the grout line, you are not in need of sealer.

Squeaky floors are the single most irritating thing that could happen to your home, next to a leak. Squeaky floors happen when the subfloor becomes loose, or damaged in someway. The easiest way to fix a squeaky floor is through the surface, not the bottom. This is a long-lasting fix that will get rid of the annoying squeak until the subfloor weakens again.

To start off, you will need a nail, and a hammer. Most households should have these, but if you do not for some reason, then it’s important that you get them. If you want to go the route of fixing the squeak from the surface, then get a finish nail, and drive it into the area where the squeak is located. A specific angling may be necessary depending on the condition of the squeaky floor as well as the exact location.

While squeaky floors usually occur in wooden floors, they can also happen if you have a carpeted surface. Fixing these requires cutting a slit in the carpet that is the size of the area where your squeak problem is located. A small screw can be inserted through the floor and subfloor to fix the problem quickly. Usually a squeaky floor just needs extra stabilization and support.

If you wish to, and are able via basement, then you can go under the floor and actually adjust the subfloor problem yourself. This only requires some small pieces of wood, a drill, nails, screws, and possibly a hammer. You will need to assess the total damage and get some quick measurements. After that is taken care of, you can determine how much needs to be replaced in the gap that is causing the squeak. Usually it’s a small amount, which requires a thin piece of wood to slide into.

If you have difficulty fixing your own squeaky floor, a contractor can do the job for you fairly quickly. If you are not sure how to begin, then you can pick up a fix-it yourself floor kit. These are designed to contain all of the materials you need to fix your floor and remove all of the annoying squeaks.
