Why not have a corner shower soap dish installed in the process? A shower soap dish is a great way to help keep your shampoos and conditioner bottles organized.

There are many choices available on the market today when it comes to soap dishes. Countersunk shower niches are a step or two beyond that of an ordinary shower soap dish. Shower niches are great because of the fact that they are flush with the tile surface of your shower, not taking up any extra room.

Pre made foam shower niches can be installed easily during a bathroom remodel and are worth every penny. They are water proof and strong. They install between studs in your shower wall and are allready the correct depth for easy mounting.

These shower inserts in your shower enclosure are not only functional, but give your shower a unique look and ability to store large amounts of bottles and shower accessories easily. If you are purchasing a fiberglass shower surround, a recessed niche mostly like will not work for you. In most cases a shower niche will need to be installed in a tile shower.

It is important to remember when installing a shower niche that it will not hold water. Using a level, ensure that the niche will allow water to flow off of its shelves and into the tub. A shower soap dish is a great shower upgrade, whether it is an over the shower head hanging soap basket, or a detailed totally custom recessed soap dish niche.

There are many methods of fixing hard water that can be done by yourself once you have the tools available and the knowledge to combat your specific situation. Softening your water can be as easy as adding salt to an ion exchange softener or as high tech as using magnetic water conditioners. This is generally your choice and can range in difficulty.

Ion exchange water softening methods involve a tank with a resin receptacle as well as a sodium adding area where salt will be added to supply sodium to allow for the chemical process to be sustained. These work by using special beads that help to filter out the excess minerals in your water by using negatively charged ions to group particles together. They will then accumulate onto the beads and can be replaced or cleaned without too much hassle.

Simply boiling water that you are going to use may solve your problems if you have temporary hardness. By boiling the water, you help to agitate the water and force particles to calcify on the bottom of your pan or kettle. The water will then have fewer minerals and be soft enough to use in most applications. Of course this will not be useful for showers or laundry but is great for cooking if your water is only temporarily hard.

Magnetic or electric water conditioning is possible and allows water to be softened by special forces that cause mineral particles to simply be dropped out of the water easier and leave you with soft water. There is no real scientific basis on this process and may very well be low in efficiency. Many people say they notice a definite difference in the taste and usability of their water after using a magnetic or electric water conditioner but results cannot be fully explained or measured in a way to measure individual results.

Always choose what is within your reach and ability to continually monitor. One of the hardest things to remember is adding salts or cleaning filters as well as testing water monthly to see if your efforts are working towards positive results. If you truly wish to get your hard water softened, then one of these methods may be of use.

Installing a new medicine cabinet may be out of necessity or due to a home remodel or even during new construction. The process is relatively simple and can be done in little time depending on the materials that the medicine cabinet is made of. You will need some basic tools to get the job done efficiently and with the least damage to your walls and actual medicine cabinet. Take care to follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions as well as making your own intelligent decisions based on where you are going to be placing the bathroom medicine cabinet.

Fore thought and measuring are important steps before putting up a new medicine cabinet. You will need to know where your wall studs are(which can be found with a stud finder) and make sure to mark them where you will be fastening the medicine cabinet. Installing a wall brace may be necessary if your home is not as sturdy due to building materials or age. If your sink is directly below the medicine cabinet, you will need to make sure there is adequate space between the sink and bottom of the medicine cabinet before fastening to allow for the best range of motion when turning on the faucet.

Fastening the medicine cabinet to the wall may be of different difficulties depending on what the cabinet is made of. Wooden type cabinets can simply be screwed into place with an electric drill while metal cabinets may need to be attached to special frames if they are relatively heavy. You will need to determine that there are no wires in the wall that you may hit with a drill and cause shorts, sparks and even fires. Securely fastening the medicine cabinet at all of the recommended points is the best option if they fit into your wall stud placement. If you are not careful and place the cabinet on plain wall material, you risk damages to your wall and possible breaking of mirrors and the cabinet itself as it will eventually come loose with extended use.

After fastening the medicine cabinet into the wall, additional steps may be required to ensure that the wall behind it is protected from mold, mildew and other degrading substances. This means using some caulking or other waterproofing materials around the edges of the cabinet that touches the wall when the area is not well insulated or retains moisture. After completing these final steps, a medicine cabinet is successfully installed and ready for extended use.

No matter how your ceramic in-shower soap dish is broken, you will need to repair it to prevent further damage to your shower tile. This is also crucial to preventing possible injuries to yourself or anyone else that uses the shower from slipping or any other possible mishap. The process can be tedious and tiresome if you take the task unprepared. You need to make sure that you have the right equipment and some free time to get the old one removed and the new dish replaced the right way.

Purchasing a replacement is going to be the next step if you do not have a spare. As most homeowners do not usually have a spare ceramic soap dish laying around, it is a good idea to purchase one that is similar from a home improvement store as well as a spare just in case the new one breaks again in the future. Getting your materials in order to start the task is important. You will either need a dremel type rotary tool or chisel to remove grouting. You will also need a hammer or something heavy and hard enough to break the remaining ceramic soap dish off.

Removing the grouting is easy if you take it one step at a time and carefully. You will not want to damage the surrounding tile so care must be taken to remove the grouting from around the broken soap dish. Once you remove it all or at least a greater portion of the grouting, then you will need to remove the broken soap dish.

By using a hammer or other hard object, you will break away the remaining soap dish as it is usually secured in place by grouting or other adhesive in the back. Carefully remove pieces of ceramic from the wall as you do not want to do extra damage to the wall that it is fixated to. Make sure to inspect the wall to make sure that it is strong enough to support the new soap dish. By prying off small pieces of ceramic and grouting that are stuck to the wall, you leave a relatively smooth surface for adhesion by grouting.

Putting in the new soap dish is simple by using some thick but plastic grouting for adhesion. Allow it to set before adding the final grouting around the soap dish and smoothing away any unsightly edging. You have successfully replaced your broken soap dish and are ready in case this accident occurs again!
