Buying A Central Air Conditioning Unit

air conditioning unitOne of the first things you want to look at is the SEER rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating). This is the consumption rating and performance given to units. You will want to find a SEER rating higher than 12.0 for your home.

Obviously the size of your home and the amount of air required to cool the square foot area of your house is important. Evaporative coolers are practical in areas where the area is hot and arid. For other temperatures compressor-driven air-conditioning systems are going to be your best bet.

Having a unit which is quiet may also be important to you if you are not a heavy sleeper. It also cuts down on irritation to guests and those who enjoy quiet times.

A system with a fan-only switch can also be important as this will allow you to use the unit for ventilation in the evening when the air outside is cooler. This can cut down an energy bill substantially.

Remember that the size of the air conditioning unit is very important. If you choose something that is too small it will not be able to reduce the temperature to a comfortable level. If the unit purchased is too large then it will be difficult to remove the humidity. Location of the unit is also a factor, so make sure to have an air conditioning specialist take a look at what your plans are before digging deep in your pocket book.

The best central air conditioning unit is not always going to be the best for your home, so make sure you find the perfect fit and application before thinking about price.
