Basic Fence Repair
Fence repair, although a tedious task, is a much better option than completely replacing your fencing. When attempting to repair fencing, it is usually best to have help from another person, as attempting to do so by yourself may result in injury. One of the most common reasons for fence repair is the fact that the fence has started to rot and lost its stability.
Some of the basic tools you will need during a simple fence repair would be, a hammer, a circular saw, a speed square, a pencil, chalk line, shovel, and of course nails and screws. If you’re doing any specialty fence repair, you may need specialty tools such as a table saw, jigsaw or chop saw.
If you do not attempt to repair your wood fence in a quick manner, one small rotted section of your wood fence can completely bring down the rest of your fence. First you must pinpoint the exact area of the wood fence that you wish to repair. Although fixing a fence may be less expensive than completely replacing events, does not mean that it will be easy.
If it is just a fence picket that needs to be replaced, this can be done easily by simply removing the old worn out or rotted picket and replacing it with anyone of the same size. However, if it is a fence rail that needs to be replaced, this will take a little bit more time because you will need to pull all the tickets off that are attached to that are attached to that particular rail. From this point you will need to re-cut new rails to the proper size and fit them in to place. It may be a good idea to add block supports underneath each rail to help prevent the same problem from occurring again in the future.
If you need to replace a fence post, you must remove all sections of the fence are touching that post, dig it out, and replace it with a new post. Remember just because it is cheaper, does not mean that it is easy. Having an extra set of hands when working on a fence will make the work lighter, and your load easier.
